Subject: School
Dear Friends,
Good to hear from you! Michelle and I loved all of your wonderful letters about your school. We can't believe that 3000 students attend your school, only about 500 kids attend our school in Aurora. Do you only have 1 teacher to your class of 51 kids?
In our school we get to choose what we want to wear. In other words we don't have to wear uniforms. We attend school 5 days a week (Not Saturdays or Sundays.) The hours we go to school are 8:50am till 3:30pm. We get two 15 minute, and a 1 hour recess. At our school some subjects that we take are: English, Math, French, Science, Geography, Physical education, Health, Computers, Music and Art. Please write back soon!
From your keypals,
Subject: Gandhi Dear Friends, Today I am going to tell you about "Father of India," Mahatma Gandhi. His full name is Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was born on 2nd October, 1869. From early age, Gandhi was very truthful and honest. After passing his matriculation examination he went to England and became a barrister. Gandhi went to South Africa for a legal case. There he found the Indians being ill-treated by the whites. Gandhi fought against this injustice. He had to bear a lot of hardship and cruelties at the hands of the Europeans. But he bore them no ill will or malice. But at last he was successful. He taught Indians how to fight injustice without creating bitterness. His method was called "Satyagraha". It was the method of non-violent resistance. Satyagraha means insistence on truth and justice. It demands that injustice should never be tolerated. It means that one should stick to one's just demands and try to persuade the opponent to accept these demands without using any physical force or violence and without losing one's self control. Then he returned to India. He fought against the British government for the freedom for our country. At last he won freedom for us. He gave us the message of truth, non-violence and love. He taught us to have complete faith in God. He died on January 30th, 1948. Not only India, but also the whole world lamented over this great loss. Brinda (girl)

However, it is generally accepted that tourism generated by the Great Barrier Reef contributes is excess of 1 billion dollars a year to the Australian economy. The commercial fishing industry, with approximately 3 700 commercial fishers and 1,400 vessels operating along the Great Barrier Reef, has a direct annual economic value of between $150 million and $200 million.

Subject: El Aid (Ramadan) Festival Dear key-friends, Thank you very much for your letter. We are happy to read about your celebrations on the 14th of January. We are in the first form, we are eleven and twelve. We are twenty pupils in our class: ten boys and ten girls. We have started learning English this year, so our teacher is helping us to write this message. Thirteen pupils in our class are Muslims so today they are not at school because they are celebrating the end of the "Ramadan." During the "Ramadan," that is to say during about one month, people must not eat during the daytime. So, you can imagine it is very difficult for our friends to spend the day at school without eating. Today, it is "El AD," so it is a very happy day for Muslims: they eat lots of homemade cakes, they put on their best clothes, they visit their relatives, this is what they do on the 1st day of "EL AD." There will be a second celebration day in about a month. Write soon, please.
The pupils from first form D and their English teacher Marlene Diaz.
Subject: Water Festival Dear Friends, The water festival takes place during the full moon in November. This day is very beautiful. We float a banana leaf cup on the water as an offering to the Mother of Water to ask her to forgive us for polluting the water. We make a wish for a better and cleaner future. There are also many beautiful fireworks during the evening.

Bard Sibon Subject: School How are you in India? I'm fine. Thank you very much for your mail. I'm a 14 years-old girl who lives in the Netherlands. At school we can get on the Internet and we can mail, if we want to. I'm in the 3rd class of the high school in Holland, but in India I think that's the 10th class. At school I learn Dutch of course (the language all the people in Holland speak), English, French, German, Spanish and if we like to we can also try to learn some Danish (the language the people speak in Denmark (also Europe.) There are only a view schools in Holland which teach Spanish, and the school I'm on is one of them. I wear most of the time ordinary clothes, jeans, a T-shirt, a sweater, socks, shoes. A lot of children wear clothes with brand names like Nike, Levis, Adidas, Reebok, but I don't. In my class it doesn't matter what kind of clothes you wear, by the way in my class there are only 9 boys and 4 girls (including me). But most of the classes in Holland are classes of about 30 students. In Holland the students don't (have to) wear a school uniform. I've got a lot of subjects at school: English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Mathemathics, Economy, Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Information technology, History, Geography, Philosophy, Culture, Acting, Drawing, and P.E. What a list, isn't it? I go to school by bike, as most of the students in Holland. How do you go to school? Bye,
Joke Subject: Windmills Dear Mrs. Shah and class. Thank you for the mail you sent me. Now I will explain some things. Windmills were built to pump water out of big lakes. When all the water was out of it the people could live in it or built food on it. The mills must pump and pump, because the land is lower than the sea and if you don't pump the water away the land will be flooded. At the moment the mills are only used for entertainment for tourists. Now big machines pump the water away. In Holland we have much land which is pumped dry. We also have won a whole province out of the water. The people did this because they needed land. The land is as big as 145 km2. Now a lot of people live on the land there. In Holland the people still need land. Do you also have such things in India?
Bye,
Subject: Ice Hockey Hello! We have a sport called ice hockey which I practise on the street with roller blades. In this game there are two sides of 12 with a puck and large sticks which have a curved bottom. We try to hit the puck, which is a small cylinder, into a small pair of nets. We use blades with a thin blade to glide across the ice.
