
Wisconsin Connects is a partnership between the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and ePals to link Wisconsin students with their counterparts in classrooms in over 200 countries and territories. Wisconsin Connects provides students access to high-tech tools that will provide entry to cultures around the world, builds relationships that strengthen America's stature in the world and benefit state and economic security, improves global understanding and positions Wisconsin students to develop their global competencies at a young age. Cross-cultural encounters, broader understanding of global interdependence, and changing balance of economic and political power define international relations and, in some very real sense, reshape the world today. Our next generation of Americans will be continually challenged to engage in unprecedented ways with the global community, both collaboratively and competitively. This reality already weighs heavily on the mind of U.S. employers. A 2006 study by Peter Hart Associates revealed that 72 percent of business leaders wish that those entering the workforce were better prepared to compete in a global economy with a higher level of intercultural knowledge.
