Thank you so much for telling new idea. Now I want to introduce my friend's idea. "I totally agree with this (idea of Mikami) and I think that the teahcer is a wonderful link between inner Knowledge and people. I always say that a teacher has to be very careful and skillful because if you are not you could be ruining a child's motivation to learn and as you already know motivation is 50% in Educational Process." It's true. "I have one here I hope you like it, it is to learn about diversity in life and considering even the small little things to see their importance if we work together" Together is the one of important key word. "Every student is an element on the process of a work e.g. A post office, you have the postman, the desk help lady, the lorry driver the employee who helps loading the post lorries with the letter s to their destinations, the sender of the letter and the receiver, and many other people involved in the mail process, so you start giving out cards with a job on it (you can work in groups first and then when they have the chain show to the rest the process finished. When the students get their cards they think about which job has to be done first for the proces to be completed, and start making a line of importance" Children can give effects for each others. "e.g first goes the boy who owns the card with "writer" word, then the boy or girl with the word "post desktop assistance" (because the writer has to go and post the letter but first when he gets to the post he has to ask where to go to the lady or gentleman on the information desk) and so on...." It is easy to understand for children by communicating concrete way. "You have to make emphasis on little things, we all need from each other for the things to go well everybody is important in the process of things so everybody is important in life. We need things and help from everybody and everybody might need our help." Regards, TOMOHIKO MIKAMI

In my class each day, we give compliments. We make a circle and you have to compliment the person to your left or to your right or whatever we decide the pattern will be that day on something they had done well, not something they are wearing or that they look pretty but things they have done like hold a door open or pick up something that had dropped on the floor or helping someone with school work, something that they did not have to do. It is great because everyone is recognized and the kids have to take the time to think about and recognize things.

Thank you so much for your message. I'm so glad hearing replies for my suggestion. For example, I tried a game "Letters from X". The explanation is following: 1.Teacher distributes a list of a member of a class to each students. 2.Students write in a good point of the person and a message of encouragement at a list to each member. 3.Teacher collects the lists which a message was written and gathers a message individually. The gathered message become "Letter from X". 4.Teacher introduces the message which gathered as a letter from a class member. Then, teacher introduces it with a quiz. "Whom was this message written for?" 5.A correct answer or an unjust solution is not important. We can make it a topic about each other's good points. This game can let students realize again each other. In addition, teacher can make the warm atmosphere that be easy to confide each other's feelings to. The most important point is "sharing" and "uniting" for each student. It's not important victory or defeat. I want to talk about such games. TOMOHIKO

Re:Games and Recreation in Class, Philippines

Hello ! Guess, you're really right! Games make discussion more interesting and lively. Problem however is the time limit per subject. Games consume time, and if you're in a hurry to catch up with the lesson, you won't find time to have games in class. Do you know games that are not really time consuming? If you have, mind sharing it with me? Thanks Lyn

Thanks a lot for message. Not only children but also a person wants to demand relief fundamentally. And a person wants to keep away uneasiness. The thing that is important in a classroom is three points. A heart be connected with a teacher and child. A child keep a heart with a child. A teacher do total guidance in a class. A game in a classroom satisfies three points of them at the same time. It is splendid that children can be connected by good relations. It is necessary for a way of thinking of a classroom game in classroom administration to be deepened. I agree with you to build a little network of games and information. Sincerely, TOMOHIKO MIKAMI

Hello. It is the game which seems to be very pleasant. Especially, "share" is the most important to make group from crowd. In any game, it needs "share". You said you know more games. Please tell me. Regards, TOMOHIKO MIKAMI

Tomohiko, I completely agree with you. I play games in my classes as much as possible. I am currently teaching young children with moderate to severe autism, so my games are very simple. But, I am also a credentialed Math teacher and coach and am always looking for new games for my teenage mainstream math students. I would like to keep in touch and maybe build a little network of games and information. Interested? Sincerely, Douglas Whiting Special Ed Teacher, 48 Los Angeles, California, USA

Hello Mikami, One game I play in class is called "musical shares" which is similar to the children's game "musical chairs". In musical chairs (which is usually played at birthday parties and such), there are a certain amount of chairs set in a line. For example, if there are 10 children, you set up 9 chairs. Then you play music aloud. The children walk around the chairs in a circle. When the music stops, they must each find a chair to sit on. Of course, one will not have a chair and he is "out". You keep eliminating chairs, and the last one with a chair wins. In musical shares, you ask a question relating to the topic you are teaching. For example, if I am teaching about Japan (I am a middle school history teacher) I might ask "how did Japan's geography affect the develoment of their civilization?" Then, I turn on the music and have the students walk around the classroom until the music stops. They must sit down in the closest chair. Whoever they sit next to is the person they must "share" their thoughts with. This is to encourage dialogue between students in a fun way. For this game, you do not need to eliminate chairs. I hope this helps! I have more games if you are interested. Martha Infante Los Angeles

Games and Recreation in Class, Japan

Dear teachers! I'm interested about students' games and recreation in the classroom. In classroom, teachers need to give interesting topics for students and to make improved relationships among each student. These events can unite each students' minds, hearts and will. Recently, children cannot get chances to develop or improve their skills to make friends. Teachers must make class not crowds of children but group of students. Already, I tried some recreation in my class. I want to exchange ideas and experiences with teachers. If you've got similar interests, please contact me.
