Re: What are your resources as a teacher?, India

Hi My name is Stephanie and I teach high school students in Australia.  I think to be a good teacher you need to be a life long learner.  Learning doesn't finish after University.  The world is ever changing and teachers need to keep up or students will not engage in learning.  I agree a teachers needs to be flexible and adaptable to circumstances.  There is more to just content knowledge a teacher also needs to improve and learn new teaching methods to cater for the new kind of students which are coming through.  What do you think?

    Stephanie

    I agree with you.

The teacher is the one who brings creativity and a desire to learn. Anything is ok. Once the child feels so involved, he takes everything he does as a "game".

I teach in high school, and experience helps a lot!

The internet is interesting for research, forums, emails, but a real language is learned with a teacher, live!

    I use all possible techniques!

Dear Suher, I believe it is not only the textbooks that is required as a teacher resource but apart from this we can always start our lesson with a relevant activity which itself serves as a teacher resource. Bye Harsimrat

Re: What are your resources as a teacher?, Kenya

Let me attempt to answer. A teacher should be able to value professional development. He then must embrace the new or emerging technologies as part of his resources. Use of the internet as a teaching resource and other software materials. Thanks Ombajo, Kenya

Hi Papa Mory, I thank you very much for your reply which showed how rich your resources are. Yes, I agree to your idea that the learning should be student-centered and the role of the teacher is to guide. The internet provides us with a vast area for resources. Give the student the ideas and let him work then you will find wonders. Cheers Suher Alrayes

Re: What are your resources as a teacher?, Senegal

Hi, My name is P.M. As a language teacher, I think the immediate and most valuable resources for a teacher are the learners themselves. Students' needs and their background knowledge as well as their learning environments, all of these will determine the adequate resources the teacher will use in his/her classroom. As a matter of fact, I guess any good instruction should be learner-centered and should involve students' everyday life. Now beyond the classroom, the teacher should be really imaginative so as to tap from the infinite possibilities that internet offers. Yet it is rather a matter of technique, procedures and organisation... You know your classes better than anybody else! Cheers, Papa Mory

Re: What are your resources as a teacher?, Egypt

Hi, Thank you for your reply. You mean by the ability to imagine, implying the ability of creation. I do agree to your point of view: a good teacher should innovate and create. He should think deeply of what methods he is going to use in his lessons, how he is going to deliver his lessons. Is he going to use the computer as an aid or he is going to use the traditional methods? There is a lot for the teacher to be a perfect one. Cheers Suher Alrayes

Re: What are your resources as a teacher?, Greece

For me the best resource is the ability to be flexible. A good teacher must at all times use imagination and be ready to adapt to every situation. Theoretically it sounds easy, but I've found that it's really difficult in practice. That's why I consider teaching is one of the most demanding but challenging, at the same, professions.

What are your resources as a teacher?, Egypt

When a teacher is employed to teach our kids, I think he should be qualified and prepared with lots of resources like the textbook, his information about the subject he teaches. His ability to search and find information. What are the other resources a teacher should be equipped with to be successful in his career. Will you answer my question? Cheers Suher Alrayes
