    Re: Smiley Bear, S. Korea

Hello, We are a school in South Korea and we are currently learning about the relationships between North and South Koreans. There is much discrimination. We would love to host a bear to help us think about discrimination in other countries. We learned about Martin Luther King Jr, Ghandi and Mother Teresa. We are very interested in learning more. Please write and tell me about your class: grade, number of students, etc. I will then email back with info. on my Smiley Bear program. Tell me, how did your students find out about me? I'm curious. Thanks very much. I hope to hear from you soon. Beth Smile smilekids@epals.com

    Re:Smiley Bear, Uganda

Hello, I am Lutwama James. Greetings from Uganda, East Africa. I wonder whether Smiley Bear has ever been to Africa and if so, maybe other counries, not Uganda. Therefore, we would like to participate in the project so that Smiley Bear witnesses cultural diversity of Uganda. Uganda is still in contact of intact culture from 52 tribes. There are three stations which I feel Smiley should not miss while in Uganda. !- Makamba Memorial school. Its a primary school. 2- Mwereerwe secondary school, that's from the age of 12-20 years of age. 3- Fountain of Hope, its a home and a farm for vulnerable children. Contact address. Mwereerwe secondary school p.o.Box,87. BOMBO. UGANDA E-Mail,lutwama@epals.com I will be very gratefull for the reply. James

    Re:Smiley Bear, Sri Lanka

Dear Beth, Of course you will be very welcome to send your ambassador of good will. My school has approximately 950 students, and guess what? Today my school got connected on the Internet Sri Lanka schools net. And through it I was able to get to ePALS via the Canadian schools net. All this time I was downloading messages at home and taking to school. Please read our school profile too. Our students range from the age of 12-18 years. I am the Deputy head of the school and teach in year 12 and 13, the biggest, but will be able to make Smiley Bear interact with all my school. You name your age group and I will do the rest. We will be delighted to send your students material and photographs from Sri Lanka. Our country has more than 3,000 years of recorded history. I don't know what State you are in. My son studies at UWGB in Green Bay. If its any near your state one day he can pay your school a visit, sing Sri Lankan songs and tell them lots of stories. BTW I have been teaching for 35 years! Our Address: WP/PYL/Dharmaraja College, Mampe, Piliyandala. Sri Lanka. C/o Deputy Principal, G. Victor A. Goonetilleke Hope to hear from you soon and any teachers anywhere in the world. Victor. P.S. I don't know how to send attachments with this mail, or else would send you pictures of my school and class.

    Re:Smiley Bear, USA

Dear Victor, I wish that I lived in a state closer to your son. I would love to hear his songs. Perhaps you can make a tape recording of your students singing. That would be wonderful! I live in New Jersey, on the east coast of the US. Our school is Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. You may use Smiley Bear with any or all ages of students in your school. You may email me at ePALS smilekids@epals.com I am gathering more information to send with Smiley Bear. Now I will look for some materials geared more toward the ages of your students. Please give me a while to locate what I would like to send. Please send me an email in about a week and I will tell you how far I have gotten. I thank you very much for your hospitality in allowing Smiley Bear to visit your country. I look forward to your next email! Beth :) PS It is wonderful that your school is now connected to the internet! It truly is amazing how the world opens up with its use! Enjoy!!

    Re:Smiley Bear, USA

First, I would like to say: Thank you very much for your compliment! I am extremely pleased and proud of the teachers that I have met through Smiley Bear's visits with students all around the world! It takes special teachers like yourself, to try new things with their students. I truly appreciate the opportunity that ePALS gives to me to send Smiley Bear to you and your students. Please send an email to me with your name, school name and mailing address, ages of your students and how many students you have. Are you familiar with how the Smiley Bear program works? I will send our little stuffed bear to you along with information about us and our state and country. I will also send you some things that you can keep to use with your students. When you send Smiley Bear back to me in about 1 week, I would really like it if you could send photographs of your students interacting with Smiley Bear. I will be sending photographs to you so that you can see where we live and I would like the same from you. We have never visited Kenya and the only way that we can learn about Kenya is by what you tell us and send back to us. The students can send artwork and writing as well. I am very happy that you would like Smiley Bear to visit. We all look forward to that. I hope to hear from you very soon. Beth Smile and Smiley Bear
