Re: Chinese students searching for ePALS

Hello, I teach Chinese in the US (Seattle area) in a high school.  I've been looking for epals for my students to communicate with in both English and Chinese.  What grades are your students and do you think our students might be interested in sharing their Chinese-learning experience?

I am very interested in learning more about your project.  I am just looking for any opportunity for my students to learn more about the world they live in.  I am a middle school teacher- 7th and 8th grade- and I have created a class wiki where I would like for classes as a whole to brainstorm issues they feel are prevalent:  social issues for middle schoolers, favorite books, how do you spend your free time, - Open to all ideas!

    Re: US teacher

Hi, I am an elementary teacher in Atlanta, Georgia U.S.A. I am also taking classes towards finshing my Master's degree. This term I have a class about the educational systems of all countries around the world. One of the countries assigned to me is China. I would appreciate any information you could provide regarding the educational system in China. Such as what age do children start? Do males and females have equal opportunities? What subjects are important? Are there tests that must be passed in order to go to the next level and at what age/ages? Any information you could provide would be helpful. Thanks, Mary Beth Kinney Atlanta, Georgia U.S.A. ck05@mindspring.com

    Chinese students searching for ePALS

Hello, I am a foreign teacher in China, teaching oral English to 17-18 year old university students. I have about 350 students, and some of them were very enthusiastic when I introduced the idea. Since I am not teaching writing, I would only be matching up students with students from other countries, and then letting them correspond in their spare time - thus I can not guarantee that they would all continue corresponding, neither will I monitor emails, and so on. However, I think it would provide a valuable impetus for my students to study English and an opportunity to use the language, also it would give them some information about foreign cultures and languages. And China would be a very exotic culture to know something about for any of your students, I am sure! If you are interested in an emailexchange with your students, please let me know.
