Re: Black US President?, United States

Well, there haven't been any black presidents but, a black candidate is running in the elections so there is a chance he might win.

My name is Megan and I live in the United States and this would be the first black president. I really wish he would get into office because we need to diversify and expand. Obama has great ideas that we could all learn from.

No, there hasn't been a black president. There is one running for president now. Sadly, I think the skin color is an issue. I agree that we are all humans and we all need to be treated with respect.

Hi. No, there has never been a black president or a female president. But I hope there will be a change this year. Barack Obama is a black man running for president. Hillary Clinton is a women, she is also running for president. I hope one of them win!! It is good for a change. But I wonder what it would be like to have a women or a black president. Re: Black US President?, United States

No, there has not been a Black president in the United States. The times have changed and it is very likely that in the upcoming election Obama may become the first Black president. At this point, people of all races and genders are given a fair shot at presidency according to our rules and laws. I'm not saying discrimination hasn't played a role in keeping a colored person or woman out of the White House. But, we cannot change the individual opinions of our citizens. They are entitled to believe what they will and so remnants of racism and sexism still may be playing a part in keeping the American people as whole more likely to pick a white male as our president. Re:Black president?, United States

Hi Steven, You're right, Blacks have run for president, but their campaigns did not go anywhere. Blacks are not the majority in the U.S., whites are. So any Black president would need a strong white base to win. Sadly, many whites in this country (especially in the South) are not ready to take that step. I heard that things are much better in Canada. Is that true? I may move. I'm tired of the discrimination. It's real. I've had friends turn their back on me because others have changed their minds about race. My best friend from the 1-8th grade won't even talk to me anymore. Another one called me the n-word when I wouldn't give up my seat on the school bus one morning. I know it sounds unreal, but it's true. Take a trip down here. The ignorance (from both sides: Black and White) will astonish you! Kanesha

Re: Black US President?, United States

Hi Jose, Chances are that there will be a Black president in the United States before any other minority. The Black American have been in this country for over 400 years. That's longer than any group other than the Native Americans, Mexican Americans and White Europeans (including the British, French, Portuguese and Spanish). Once one minority has become president, then others will follow. Hopefully, America can become a truly diverse country (like Spain). Right now, everyone is like oil and water. They can be in the same container without every mixing. Kanesha

    Re:Black president?, United States

Hi Mike, It's not about wanting a black president over a white one. What it boils down to is identity and relations. Can the president relate to the people? We are far from point where race is not an issue. There are still people alive today (my grandmother) that lived during the times of segregation and Jim Crow laws and they have not forgotten how hard it was to be ANY minority (female, Asian, black, Native American, homosexual, etc.) during this time period. Everyone should have a chance to become president, but up until this election, that has not been the case. Kanesha

Re: Black US President?, United States

Hi, well in answering your question, no, America has never had a black president before, but I definitely think that it's time that we had one. Barrack Obama is currently running against Hilary Clinton and John McCain (both of which are white), so it will be interesting to see how the presidential race turns out. Obama deserves a chance for sure. ~S

No, black people like me have never ruled the United States before. There was the first black judge. But, I hope there aren't people in the world that dislike colored people too. Thanks for the question. From Alexis/United States

Re: Black US President?, United States

I do agree with the statement that there have been only white males in charge. It sadly has been this way for more than a few decades. Its also the fact that there have been no women in charge also. I'm not saying that there should not be an African American in office, but I don't think that Obama is the best black leader of choice it seems as though there isn't a real solid figure with him. I would not trust the future of America in his hands. I say that Hillary isn't that bad of a choice, just because she has had past experience and she has true goals for us. I hope that we are open minded enough to accept any other sex or race than just the same white males in charge. I just think that even though we have the opportunity to elect a different person, some of us just aren't ready for such a drastic change, though I am not one of them. Hopefully this helped. Sincerely Jessie-Lee USA

The United States has never had a black president before and I do not think that discrimination is a major issue in voting for this president.

Hey Akin. No, there has never been a black United States president. I think it would be good. I agree that the color of your skin should not matter. If Obama gets president it would be a good change and go down in the history books. That would be cool because people could see something change in their history.

Hi there Akin! I just wanted to tell you that if the black president who is in the campaign wins and becomes president, he will be our first black president. I agree with you that black people should have the same privileges as white people.
