Have you read my latest posting in the Teacher Forum?  What else would you like to know so we can connect our students?

    Hi Jeremy,

You haven't replied to my last message to you, so I'm wondering if you are still interested.  I won't be teaching Gatsby till early May. Is that too late for you?

    Re: The Great Gatsby

I'll be teaching Gatsby in May.  We could set up a blog and require students to post or reply 8 times during the weeks we are reading it.  We could set up guidelines about how long it has to be and we could provide a list of topics about which they could choose to post.  We could give a maximum of 10 points for each posting/reply, based on how thorough their response is and how grammatically accurate their writing is, etc. What do you think?  I have two American Lit. classes of 21 students each; about half are sophomores and the rest are juniors with a couple of seniors too.  We aren't a very diverse district in south-central PA.

I am teaching The Great Gatsby with my 11th Grade Comprehensive English/Literature class and I would be more than interested to do something.  If you can, provide me with a bit more information.

    Re: The Great Gatsby

My students would love to communicate with your students.  They will be doing a research project later this year to discover what it's like to be someone their age living in a different country, so this will be a great way to get them started.

    Thanks!

    Tori

    Re: The Great Gatsby

    Hello Antonio,

I'm an English teacher from Istanbul, Turkey. I'm teaching in an Armenian High School. It's a private school for Armenians.I think you might have some ideas about Armenians. Anyways,  I 've just seen your post as I was browsing.I know it's been quite a long time since you wrote this but we've become familiar with ePals this year and I have a class of 12 students aged 17 years old and they're so eager to communicate with students all around the world. Do you think your students would be interested in mailing? If yes, please let me know and I'll send you their account details.

    Thank you.

    Re: The Great Gatsby

Since we are doing our research paper on Huck Finn and our course ends Jan. 20 (we are a block-scheduled school), I probably won't be doing much writing with Great Gatsby.  However, I would be interested in blogging and giving students more opportunities to express themselves in writing about the connections they are making with Gatsby and its themes and symbols.  Another idea is perhaps our students could write a short essay and then write responses to each other's work.

    Re: The Great Gatsby

I'll be teaching one 11th grade American Literature class that will be reading The Great Gatsby during that time and I'm definitely interested in doing a book discussions project with you!  I'd like to also do something with writing (peer reviewing possibly) if that might work for you.  I'm located in Yorktown, VA.

    Re: The Great Gatsby

We are reading Great Gatsby and my students are preparing a project on Jazz Age. They are 11 graders. Unfortunately we are reading the penguin reader not the unabridged but we are trying to discuss it in detail ( as much as possible) and a collaboration with an other class will be a great challenge for them. And here is our class blog http://grade11fld.edublogs.org/tag/the-great-gatsby/

    Karen,

I also teach an honors American Lit. class.  We would love to collaborate with your class and do a book discussion and project.  Do you want to plan for Dec.  It seems as though we miss quite a bit of school during Jan. because of snow.  We are in Kentucky.
