    Re: Teaching English through Movies

Hi , I'm Pablo from Chile. If I ever use movies in my classroom it is usually a 5 to 10 minutes sequence just to teach some language use, identify a comunicative situation, or promote a debate on a subject. With the use of DVDs students only listen the movie in the original language , no subtitles. I feel it is a waste of time to make students watch a whole film in my class.

    Re: Teaching English through Movies

    Добрий день, Людмила,
In the USA, copyright laws about using published "Hollywood" movies in classrooms are quite strict and somewhat confusing.  For a brief explaination, go to Public Broadcasting web page: http://www.pbs.org/teachers/copyright/fairuse.html
Instead of using "Hollywood" movies, I would suggest looking at some other online video sites and also sites with multimedia specifically created for English langauge learners.
Teacher Tube (Thousands of videos created, uploaded and shared by educators): http://teachertube.com/
School Tube (Thousands of videos created and shared by students. Your students might really enjoy these!): http://www.schooltube.com/
BBC "Free videos, recordings and quizzes to help you learn about and practise English pronunciation..."
LearnEnglish Central from the British Council
"...provides English language practice for everyone, but especially for teenagers and adult learners.": http://www.britishcouncil.org/central.htm
Site for kids (online activities, songs, stories, etc): http://www.britishcouncil.org/kids.htm
Voice of America - Learning American English (audio, text, and video)
I hope this helps you a little bit.
    Будь здоровий!
    Greg

    Hi Ludmia

PowerPoint multi media facilities are an excellent additional method of teaching English as well as using English language films.

    Regards

    Teaching English through Movies

Hi, I'm from Ukraine. I'm a teacher of English. Who knows where can I search films, movies in English?  As well, do you have any ideas to share about using movies to teach English?

    Thank you.
