Re: Playing for Change--Interested in connecting middle school students through music

    Hello

I´m very interested  to know more about this project. I have Portuguese students who are anxious to know new cultures  and of course we would give lots of information about our country - Portugal. My email address is virginia.teacher@epals.com

Playing for Change--Interested in connecting middle school students through music

    Hello.

My name is Kristine. I work at an alternative middle school in Portland, Oregon. I am interested in connecting my students (we have 45 total) with students from other countries (or possibly other regions of the US). I would like their connection to center around music, peace and understanding of another culture. My students live in a urban community and come from primarily low income familes. Most of my students have not experienced life outside of their neighborhoods. I recently become interested in a program called Playing for Change. You can view the website here http://www.playingforchange.com I would like to some how involve the ideas of this playing for change program (though it would not be necessary for the ePals to participate if they were not interested)

I am wondering if there are other schools regionally or internationally that would like to get involved and help my students learn about another part of the world. I am looking to have a once a month correspondence (probably via email) and would like the students to exchange information about their own cultures and the music they listen to and ways they work to promote peace, harmony, etc. or the way music helps them.  My students are between the ages of 11-14, both boys and girls.

If you have any interest in continuing this post and have further ideas or want to join together to do something this school year, please contact me either here or at mtscottms@epals.com

    Thank you!

    Kristine
