    Hello Sandy.

We would love to get your input. You might find the feedback I am getting from a school in the Philippines quite interesting. They have just been hit by 4 typhoons in a month.

If you want to see my project site I can send it from my school email. I have noticed that ePals does not like links being exchanged via their system.

    Hello Jo,

We are a class of 5th grade geography students in the US in the midst of a natural disasters project. We have completed interviews already and are set to launch into a movie project to make films for our school concerning dos and don'ts for twisters and earthquakes.

Let's talk. We are continuing on with our topic into January.

    Greetings, Mike.

My name is Sandy. I am a teacher in Atlanta, grade 5.  We just experienced a hundred year flood.  I know that flooding is fairly common in the Midwest, but here in Atlanta it was just amazing how destructive and disruptive nature was!  If you or your students want to email me, feel free.

Re: Partner class wanted for Natural Disasters project

    Hi Carol,

Thanks for your reply. It is now end of term for us but I would love to set something up after the break. We restart school on the 6th December so it would be great to begin then.

I was thinking an initial link-up might included basic information about location, traditions etc. As this is a muslim country most of my pupils do not celebrate Xmas but it could be a good way to exchange info about celebrations in other cultures. You could send us details about how your children celebrate thanksgiving/Xmas etc and we could maybe send info on the Eid celebrations. We also have a national day coming up so I could get them to do some work for that.

I knwo it's not natural disasters related but it could be a good way to share information initially? Let me know if you have any other ideas??

    Jo.

I am a teacher in upstate NY in the foothills of the Adirondacks and would love to share with your class.  I like the idea of international classrooms where students can equally learn about cultures other than their own as we are not a diverse school, so students from the area if they do not travel, are unfamiliar with languages and customs other than their own.  Please email me to see what we might come up with to make this an exciting project. Partner class wanted for Natural Disasters project

    Hi,

I am a British teacher working in the United Arab Emirates. I teach grade 4 and we have recently been doing some work on natural disasters and how people around the world prepare for and deal with them.

Most of my class are not native English speakers but we are an international school, teaching only in English so this would be a great opportunity for them to develop their communication skills and link to our unit.

Only one problem, the weather here is generally pretty stable. While we have some extreme heat out in the desert and very hot summers, there are only a few recent documented cases of tornadoes and some effects from cyclone Gonu in 2007.

It means that although we can share information about our climate and those few cases, most of the class won't have experienced it first hand but we would really like to link up with a class who have.

Please let me me know if you are willing to help.

    Thanks,

    Jo Digney.
