Re: Partner class wanted for Natural Disasters project

I am a teacher in upstate NY in the foothills of the Adirondacks and would love to share with your class.  I like the idea of international classrooms where students can equally learn about cultures other than their own as we are not a diverse school, so students from the area if they do not travel, are unfamiliar with languages and customs other than their own.  Please email me to see what we might come up with to make this an exciting project. Partner class wanted for Natural Disasters project

    Hi,

I am a British teacher working in the United Arab Emirates. I teach grade 4 and we have recently been doing some work on natural disasters and how people around the world prepare for and deal with them.

Most of my class are not native English speakers but we are an international school, teaching only in English so this would be a great opportunity for them to develop their communication skills and link to our unit.

Only one problem, the weather here is generally pretty stable. While we have some extreme heat out in the desert and very hot summers, there are only a few recent documented cases of tornadoes and some effects from cyclone Gonu in 2007.

It means that although we can share information about our climate and those few cases, most of the class won't have experienced it first hand but we would really like to link up with a class who have.

Please let me me know if you are willing to help.

    Thanks,

    Jo Digney.
