Re: What technology is used in classrooms around the world?

I am the principal of an elementary school in Vermont.  We also received grant money and school improvement money to bring a laptop, projector and document camera into each of our 18 classrooms this year.  We are newly wireless also and will be receiving 12 Mimios (portable devices that turn whiteboards interactive soon.  It has been an exciting year for us.  We have a team of teachers working to design professional development and training for embedding this equipment into the curriculum effectively next year.

Re: What technology is used in classrooms around the world?

    Hi Shelli N,

My name is Colin Smith. I am Deputyhead of a primary school in South Wales United Kingdom. The school has about 240 children on role ranging from 4-12.  We have an ICT suite with 18 computers each classroom has an interactive whiteboard (SMART) and access to a computer.  All computers are connected to the internet and all children's work is stored on a server.  We have a range of cameras and video cameras and several other pieces of IT equipment.  It is funded partly by the school and through fundraising events.

Hope this is of some use.

    Thanks

    Colin Smith

I am a 9th and 12th grade English teacher in Kentucky. I use the computer for blogs, wikis, webquest, wordle. All of our high school students got their own Macbook this year, so the teachers are trying to learn ways to incorporate them into the classroom. I have to say, it has made learning much more enjoyable for my students.

Re: What technology is used in classrooms around the world?

    Hi Shelli,

my name is Reinhard and I am teacher at a German secondary school. We changed the whole procedure of students management two years ago. Before that teachers went to childrens' classes. Now, students will come to the teachers' classes. That makes different things more efficient like the use of modern technology. We have two ICT rooms, one with 15 computers and a second one with 8 computers. Both rooms have smartboards. Teachers and students will meet there. But additionally, all teachers have their own room to teach. In this room there are further computers, beamers, laptops. All computers (fixed or laptop) are connected to the internet and to the intranet by wireless comunication skills. We are living in a hilyl area and the school is next to the top of a hill. We have 7 floors at school but they are not one above the other. They are arranged by an angle of about 90 degrees to each other and that causes difficulties to get all computers connected. But meanwhile it runs.

The computers and smartboards in the ICT rooms are sponsored. The computers in the teachers' classes are bought by the teachers themselves or are old versions. But they work and students can do their researches.

We have one further room with 7 computers where students are producing radio programmes. Special computers with extraordinary sound- cards and mixers and tape- decks, CD- and MD- players int he periphery of the computer. They use digital sound recorders to record voices.

So we have a lot gifted or supported by many people around. That is neccessary in Germany to get good equippent in ICT.

Let me know if this will be useful to you. Greetings from rainy Germany.

    Reinhard

Re: What technology is used in classrooms around the world?

I am a 5th grade teacher in South Carolina. Technology is used in various ways throughout the districts. I use  desktop computers, laptops, and Smartboards across the curriculum. My school was fortunate to be a part of a program in which computers were obtained through a technology grant.

What technology is used in classrooms around the world?

I am a technology director in a small school district in the state of Texas. I would like to know what types of technology is standard in classrooms around the world. How does your school pay for those items?
