Re: Welcome to the ePals Maps Project

Why do we need different kinds of maps?

They help us to tell information in different places in a more organized fashion. Maps also show us that where people live effects how they live.

They help us to understand different people in different places.

If someone lives in an area where there is many water sources; by the ocean or have many lakes and rivers, you right away can assume they get in their goods by boats. If they live in an area where there is many mountains, you can assume they have skii resorts. Maps are things you can look at once and you have a visual of what they do there, how they live, and landforms they obtain in one region. Maps are helpful, different kinds of maps also are helpful. They just show you different things in a faster way.

Re: Welcome to the ePals Maps Project

We need different types of maps because we need different types of information. If we had one map to sow all the information no one would be able to read it. Different maps help us understand different things like a climate maps shows weather and precipitation while a physical map can show rivers, lakes, and elevation. A political map shows borders between places we need to know that to see where we’re at.  We need information like that to help us understand a place and the people living there.

Why do we need different types of maps?

We need different kinds of maps to be able to tell different information apart in an organized way. It is easier to tell things apart when they are separate.

How do different types of maps help us understand different people and places?

They can help you see how people live. If the weather in a desert is 95 degrees Fahrenheit, you know that you certainly don't have to wear a coat. However, in Minnesota during the wintertime it snows and gets below 0 degrees Fahrenheit so you do need a coat. If a town or state lives by an ocean, you can assume that they are able to get their goods by boat, where some people can't.

We need different kinds of maps to show different features of an area like:

    n  Population

    n  Locations

    n  Climates

    n  Borders

    n  Ect.

We can use different maps to show different things like:

    • Climate
    • Population
    • Ect.

We can then use that information to find out more about their culture and how they live.

We need different kinds of maps to tell us different things. For example you wouldn't use a map for a park, to navigate what road to take on a trip. We need maps to find information about people too. For example if you were living in the desert you probably wouldn't have a cpoat. Where you live influences how you live.

Well for one thing, some maps can show us why certain countries are not a developed. Different maps can also show us how insignifigan we are throughout the entire world.

Welcome to the ePals Maps Project

Welcome to the forum for the ePals Maps Project. In learning to use three different types of maps (physical, climate, political), and comparing your daily life to that of your ePals partner, use this forum to answer these questions: * Why do we need different types of maps? * How do different types of maps help us understand different people and places?
