    Re: Water Partners?, New Zealand

Oh Maria - unfortunately we are currently completing our inquiry into water. It has been a fantastic unit. You could have a look at our wiki if you like and see some of the things that we have been doing... http://declairers.wikispaces.com It is not a very good wiki but still may be of interest. I will be adding the kid's individual and group research over the the next week or so. We didn't seem to have much luck making contact with the outside world and I am always on the lookout for contacts. If you want to use us a questioning or sounding out board with your class, my class would absolutely love that... Regards and Best of Luck! Claire

    Re: Water Partners?, New Zealand

My somewhat younger children are really excited about possible contact with one or more groups of people from around the world... My e-mail address would prove most responsive - ripples@epals.com If we could have a class/teacher e-mail, we would like to introduce ourselves, share what we have found out about our urban water cycle and share some humble graphs about our water usage... Re: Water Partners?, United States

Claire, Hi, that would be terrific. We are back from a holiday today. My students about 85 of them should have data back from their water usage. We will compile info today and hope to email you our thoughts and findings. Looking forward to hearing back from you. Maybe we can make a small video to send to you and receive one from you, and/or see each other on web cam. We are Eastern Standard Time. How many hours ahead are you? Thanks, Rick

Sorry I have not been on sooner! No, we did not find anyone! Even if it is only my class, we would really enjoy demonstrating our global world to our children by e-mailing a class and comparing our water usage... If you are still interested you can e-mail me directly at ripples@epals.com. Alternatively, you can get to know us at our new wiki which is very much under construction still! http://declairers.wikispaces.com/ :-) Claire

    Re: Water Partners?, United States

Hi I am a 7th grade Math teacher near Boston, MA with about 90 students. I would be interested in participating in this project over the next 4 weeks until our school releases. Please let me know the logistics regarding communication. It would be terrific to set up a web cam at some point. Our hours are 8:30-2:20pm EST. We have access to computers in the classroom for individual communication and/or full class communication. Let me know what is the best way to set it up. I would like to get my students started on the activity tomorrow. This is a great project considering the disasters that have taken place recently in the world, and scarcity of water. Thanks, Rick Linet

Claire - My name is Tom Hinken and I work with 100 7th graders in Montague Michigan. We only have a few weeks of school left, but would love to work on such a project with you next year. Or we could answer questions for your students for the remainder of this year. We live on the shores of Lake Michigan, and also a smaller lake called White Lake that has a history of misuse and is now recovering. Our government is currently looking at ways to protect the Great Lakes (Lake Michigan is one of them) from pollution and overuse. So, we may be of help to your students. Water Partners?, New Zealand

Kia Ora from New Zealand! We are planning an inquiry unit based around water and our place as consumers of a natural resource. We would love to connect with 5 classes/groups from around the world who can help us to compare and contrast in order to develop an understanding of the way we use and abuse natural resources. Given the framework, age is probably not important. We are 5 composite classrooms (150 children) aged from 8 - 11. It is envisaged that contact and communication will be made via whole class shared writing with the teacher.... so, one e-mail per group at each stage! We will be beginning our Tuning in at the beginning of term 2 (5th May, 2008). The majority of this inquiry unit is teacher lead in order to model "finding out and sorting out" but will leave time for our children to "Go further" and to "Take Action" Ka Kite Claire Buist
