    Re:Teacher Friendships, Germany

Hi Rebecca, Your message is more than three years old and I wonder whether you have started travelling and working abroad. How are your teaching experiences as a full-time worker? I finished university in 2003 and did a two-year-course to become a teacher. Now, I am a teacher trying to keep up with all the (office) work next to teaching the students. Being in this profession still makes me happy, but I didn't have a clue how intense the work would be. Anyway, it might be a German thing, due to all reforms in our educational system. I currently teach grade 5,6,8,10 and 12/13 in English, German and Geography (bilingual). Hope to hear from you, M. Karoline

    Re:Teacher Friendships, USA

Hi. I am currently working in a special education classroom with children from k-6 grade. I will start teaching this summer and am working towards getting my M.A. in early childhood education and wanted to learn more about the early childcare programs in Australia. As part of one of my assignment, I am required to interact with an early childhood educator from another country to learn more about the programs. I hope we can keep in contact so that we may expand our knowledge in international developments and requirements in early childhood education. Please email me at jeannepak@epals.com. Thanks!

    Re:Teacher Friendships, USA

Janine, I also teach in the USA and find that all the testing and scripting can be very frustrating at times. However, since I am a native, this is all I have ever known. I am interested in how they educate children in Australia. It sounds that, by the way you write, there is not standardized testing in Australia. How do they keep teachers and students accountable? Because, if there is a better system for teaching and learning, I would like to know about it. Please feel free to e-mail me at aliebow@epals.com so we might keep this dialogue open. Adam Liebow

Dear Sisira, Would you or your class be interested in exhanging some cultural items or pictures? Or we could exchange stories about what our lives are like in our countries--or ask questions and answer. Brenda

    Re:Teacher Friendships, USA

Hi, I am an Aussie teacher working in the USA. I teach 4th graders in a public school in Florida. In a past life I taught early childhood students at TAFE, and worked as a preschool teacher in Melbourne. I have student teachers working with me on a regular basis and could hook you up with a junior intern in January. A junior intern is in his/her first internship during their 3rd year of college. They only have 2 internships - senior and junior. Teaching in the USA is very different to teaching in Australia. We have a very scripted program with mastery skills to achieve by the end of the school year. Also, our students engage in testing from Grade 3 onwards and the testing can have implications for retention if they fail. Feel free to email me at ozgirl@epals.com I am happy to discuss ongoing changes in Australia as I feel that I am still bragging about how things were when I left. Cheers Janine McGrath
