My students are in the same age and they can perform the task of writing a page in the story. I'm a female English teacher from Egypt and I'm called Suher Alrayes. I'm ready to work with you, when shall we begin? My email is: sosorayes3220@epals.com cheers, Suher

Re:Short Story Writing Circle, Saudi Arabia

Dear Natasha, Thanks so much for the reply. I already have teachers from schools in the US and Canada interested. And it would be great to have a school from Russia involved. To answer your first question, most of the children in my class (grade 2) are 7 years old. But two of the 18 are 8. Regarding the second question, sometimes just having a great wish is better than having a whole lot of talent and not doing anything with it. So welcome aboard. In the next few days I'll send an email to all the teachers. In the meantime could you please tell me a little about your school? Feel free to contact me at inayath_mohamed@epals.ca if its more convenient for you. Inayath

    Re:Short Story Writing Circle, USA

Dear Inayath Mohamed, I am from Center, Colorado, USA. I teach 3rd grade in a rural/agricultural area. I am very interested in participating. The majority of my students are originally from Mexico and speak Spanish as their first language and English as their second. I am an English only speaker. Let me know if this interests you. Thanks, Jeri

    Re:Short Story Writing Circle, Russia

Dear Inayath! I came to this site in order to find penpals for my students, but I got very interested in your project. I've got some questions. How old are supposed to be our young writers? You see the students of the 2nd grade in our schools are at the age of 8. So young? And if my students have just a great wish, not a talent, can they participate? Sincerely yours, Natasha. Russia.

    Re:Short Story Writing Circle, Canada

Inayath Mohamed, I have a group of four girls who are good writers in need of enrichment. I would be interested in doing this project with them. Let me know if you would be interested in a Canadian school. Thanks, Colette Mondor mondor@epals.com

Short Story Writing Circle, Saudi Arabia

Dear Colleague, Are you a grade 2, 3, 4 or 5 teacher? Do you have good writers in your class? Will they be interested in collaborating with their peers all over the world in writing short stories? If the answer if yes read on. Even if the answer is no read on. Who knows, you might know someone who knows someone who might be interested. Here’s how it works: one group of four children (or a small group of children) from four schools in four countries collaborate to write one short story. The first child (or group) begins the story. He or she writes only one page. This page is emailed to the child in the next school. That child continues the story by writing another page. This then is emailed to the third child. The third child writes a page and emails it to the last person who then finishes the story. Once the story is complete I put it on the website I created for this purpose. How many story circles can we have? As many as you want. Is there some fine print? Yes there is. One is that each story must have a character that is representative of the country the child is currently in. The other is that each child has only a week to write his or her part of the story. That’s it. Other than for that anything goes. Who am I and why am I doing this? My name is Inayath Mohamed. I am the grade 2 homeroom teacher at the International Programs School in al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. There are three reasons why I’m doing this. The first is that it was done successfully once before. The second is that I have children in my class who are very good writers and it’ll be a shame not to challenge them. Finally, I am a huge social studies buff. If you are interested in the project and want more information please email me at inayath_mohamed@epals.com Regards, Inayath Mohamed
