My 9th grade classes have just finished a huge project on Biomes and have begun looking at how energy gets to the Earth and how it is used. By the middle of November, we will begin talking about Global Warming in detail, and I would like for the each one of the classes to create a digital story on how Global Warming has affected each of the biomes they created. The project would be due at the end of November. I would love to team up with a class that can see direct effects of Global Warming in their own environments so that my inner-city students can get a 'feel' of the devastating effects of this phenomenon. The students range between 14 and 16 years, and have very little interaction with their natural environment.

A Very Special
Invitation

to Participate in
a Great Global Project

We'd be delighted to have your class participate in this year's Alien
Adventure 2010. After you read the description below, the project may seem overwhelming but it isn't at all! It can be
as simple or as complex as you desire. We're starting very shortly, so please
get on-board quickly. Some people are extremely busy and want limited
participation, while others have plenty of time for deep involvement. It's up to
you! We're eager to get started, so please reply quickly!

Please consider joining us for Alien Adventure 2010,
the second year of a very educational and enjoyable global project. Basically,
an alien and his little sister are visiting Earth to help solve the global
warming problems. The alien (U) visited Earth last year (Alien Adventure 2009), so he's returning with
his little sister (KK, age 12) While U was very strange in terms of appearance,
KK is much more human-like and she has supernatural powers and a very extensive
interest in science! Each class selects one part of her to describe (such as
arms, ears, feet, etc) and posts their description on Blackboard. Each class
then uses these descriptions to construct a 2-D model of her and posts a picture
of her on Blackboard. (As an alternative to the 2-D construction, students can
do drawings - such as with computers - and post those instead.) Each class
also prepares a "chapter" for a book that tells about the aliens' visit
(approximately two days) to their school. This chapter can be in any form
desired - even in the form of a journal - and can be from about 1-10 pages long.
It can include pictures, photographs, maps, and all sorts of cultural
information. At the end of the project, each class will receive a fabulous
electronic version of the book and certificates of participation. Blackboard
also has a nice forum and several other opportunities for cultural exchanges and
activities.

Classes will be able to view last year's book (on
Blackboard) in order to give them lots of ideas and examples. Classes are also
encouraged to use Epal's great resources and links for information about global
warming. Blackboard is very user-friendly and fun to use.

Please accept our invitation and join us for Alien
Adventure 2010. It's going to be great! This project is not too overwhelming
and is ideal for all ages of students from elementary to middle school. Please also create or use a
non-Epals email address (such as gmail, yahoo mail, etc) for this project because some of the attachments are large. You
will then receive a Blackboard log-in and password from Sue Wright.

Questions or comments? Please reply to us at ePals: CalRainsKorea@epals.com

Again, please accept our cordial invitation for your
class to participate.

I have a great group of 25 5th grade students starting up on Wednesday, Sep. 9. We are looking for pen pals to correspond with, preferably international. We could do both written correspondance as well as distance learning as my classroom has a smartboard and webcam as well. Please email me if you are interested in either. I feel it would be great to video conference and create a joint project together. Contact if interested.

Paris school is looking for students aged 12/13 to work with

Living in the middle of Paris (8th district), I'd love to work on this project of Global Warming with my class of 19 students, aged 12/13 (8th graders).
