I am new to podcasting also but I went to a workshop where I was given this link. It is a great resource for anyone new to podcasting, http://learninginhand.com/podcasting/create.html Make sure to download the segment booklet as it helps students organize their podcasts. Listen to their classroom podcasts if you get the chance. They are really quite good. Caren

Hi Janine, I was reading Steve's mail and your response. I would love to do the same in my school but have limited knowledge on podcasting. Being a literature educator I am very interested in seeing what you do. Can you please mail your weblink so that I can view your student work? Thanks. Sudha

Hi: Podcasting is a very powerful tool in developing social and language skills. Just think about building a radio program. Visit www.mac.com They have lots of tutorial videos. I highly recommend Garage Band (Mac program). You can add photos or video to it. It has sound effects and voice effects. Students can record book reviews, interviews, facts, about their schools and research results. It is a wonderful tool and free. Any help? feel free to email quinones@epals.com Evylyn Quinones

Dear Steve, We are working on a History project that will include podcasting. Our tech person is helping us. We are using PhotoStory3 to first make the presentation. It will include photos and narration by the students. PhotoStory can be downloaded for free from the internet. Once we complete the PhotoStory we will be uploading it to YouTube.com Best of Luck, Rose Kuljerich rkuljerich@epals.com

It is very easy to do, as all you need is a headphones and Microphone and you can be speaking and recording your voice within a few minutes of joining. You can also record song, drama and whatever you wish. Marguerite Carstairs

    Re: Podcasting?, USA

Hi Evan (and other). I have just taught a podcasting class to teachers in our district with special attention to podcasting and powerpoint. K12 Handhelds is a wonderful web page to get started on. It will give you links to free software and directions for getting started. Audacity is easy to use and all you have to do is convert to Mp3 when you are done (built into the software). We are using podcasts to go with stories students have written (and put into powerpoint) and then we record the students reading their stories and import them as an audio file (Mp3). You can also import your PPt slides into windows movie maker, add music and you're student's podcast and make it into a movie or dvd. Lot's of possiblities. Hi Evan, I am a teacher of year 4 children at Otumoetai primary. I am experimenting with audio podcasts in our class blog at www.opsroom21.blogspot.com. I am getting there but want to know how to add an audio file to an image so that when you click on the image the audio file plays. Thanks This a bit of a journey Steve Caldwell

Where in New Zealand are you? I work at Whakatane Intermediate - we use podcasts to report back to parents, demonstrate class work, show parents speeches etc. My Internet site is available, but still being worked on. If you are interested in how it works and would like to have a look, email me back. Evan Rutherford ICT Manager Teacher (Rm 18)

    Re:Podcasting?, USA

I teach 2nd grade as well and am always looking for new ways to integrate technology. Last year, podcasting was the big thing but not really at the elementary level. I would love to try it but hadn't really come up with an idea how. I would love to hear how you are going to use it. thanks, Vicki McNeely Dingman Delaware Primary School

    Re:Podcasting?, USA

I am new to podcasting but am very excited with the possibilities of it with primary students. I teach 7-8 year olds and just know that podcasts are going to be a great way to make writing truly authentic. In order to record a clear broadcast, students will have to prepare their scripts in writing and go through the steps of the writing process to prepare a show. I have played around with Audacity, which is a free program but am still struggling in some areas. I am very excited about Podcast People. There are different levels of subscription here, one being FREE. You can set up your account very easily and record right from this site, without using Audacity. A great example of places to take your podcast, check out Radio Willow Web. I have gotten some great ideas from this podcast that is created by kids. Good Luck! Kim

Steve - I have used a free program call Audacity. Relatively easy to use - you can use any microphone to record, and then the program will convert to mp3's (or other formats). The web site is pretty good, and it's free!

    Re:Podcasting?, USA

Hi Steve, My classroom has just begun podcasting. If you go to the Apple website there is a quick training video on podcasting (can't remember the website address off the top of my head). I placed some podcasts on my classroom website that have been done by other schools. We are just beginning our podcasting - mainly literature discussions. We will get better as my skills improve. Our first podcast should be available in about a week. Cheers Janine McGrath

    Re:Podcasting?, USA

I am going to start using podcasting with my reading students at the middle school level. I want to use it to improve fluency and comprehension, giving summaries etc. of their readings.
