    Re: Folktales, Argentina

Hi there! 1. Lots of fairy tales (in Spanish of course). My favorites were Cinderella, the swan princess, the princess and the pea among others that are more regional such as "Fabulas" like the fox and the crow etc. 2. small children are still read to by parents (but it's not very common in my country), older kids read Harry Potter or Narnia 3. I guess they use books that children like, such as Harry Potter, to motivate and involve students 4. Book stores (libraries in Argentina are very small and don't have a kids section!!) 5. yes, folktales are very common and I heard many but can't really recall one now, most of the ones I heard were connected to religion. Hope it's not too late! Paz

    Asunto:Folktales, Mexico

    Re:Folktales, USA

Hi, writing from USA 1. I read C.S Lewis, Beverly Cleary, Judy Blume, and Madeline L'Engle. 2. My students might be reading things that are out of the ordinary for average teenagers. They really like Walter Dean Myers, Louise Rennison, Marilyn Renolds. Really, they like to read anything that they can connect with their lives. Reality, things that makes sense. 3. I use children's literature in all of my classes. I use it to add to a lesson, I also use it as the core of the lesson. I try to connect my students to a deeper meaning through the literature. 4. From bookstores, libraries and from their teachers. 5. I have used folktales in my classes and one of my colleagues uses them all the time. I don't remember ever being told folktales. I remember having the Mother Goose book and really liking The House that Jack Built. Hope this helps:) Cathleen Clara

    Folktales, Ireland

I am doing a project in my class on international literature. I would like to ask a few questions. 1. What books did you read as a child? 2. What are children reading today? 3. How is children's literature used in the schools? 4. Where do children and families obtain books? 5. Are folktales told in your culture? Did you hear them as a child? and what was your favorite folktale? Thank you very much
