    Re: Natural Disasters

I agree, we need to find a way to prevent these disasters from happening.  In the news, after a disaster, it is very hard to watch those poor children come out of the rubble. I want to cry at the sight.

Famine is more or less natural than economic in some countries. I would make it drought rather than famine. Drought is the natural disaster that causes famine.

    Re: Natural Disasters

I think the most costly one is an earthquake.  If it gets a high enough magnitude, it can destroy very tall buildings with lots and lots of people in them.  In 1964, Anchorage was hit with a 9.2 earthquake.  Their new JCPenny building collapsed and killed 2 people.  But that is not as much as an office building collapse could kill.

I live in Colombia and am going to talk about the disaster of Armero. This disaster was caused by a volcano. The volcano made an eruption and destroyed all the town of Armero in Tolima department. The city lost over 1,500 people and a lot of people became homeless.

I never thought about it that way.  Wow.  You're right, we can't stop them.

    Re: Natural Disasters

I used to think people are very clever, but we cannot do anything when natural disasters happen. We cannot prevent them, control them, or stop them. The only thing we can do is clean up after the disasters.

    It is very sad.

    Re: Natural Disasters

In my opinion, natural disasters are disasters caused by nature, for example, floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquake, tsunamis, landslides, droughts and others. But I want to tell about drought. I think that droughts happen when there is no rain for a long time. Water is one of the main ingredients in the food chain. Most droughts tend to occur during summer as the weather is hot and water evaporates quickly. These droughts can destroy the farmed countries and different harvests. Droughts usually result to water shortage that interferes human activities seriously. Unfortunately, climate is a dry in Ukraine especially in the Crimea.

    Re: Natural Disasters

I agree with Gabriela G. The three most dangerous natural disasters are smallpox, famines, and floods.

    Re: Natural Disasters

I think there are three top dangerous natural disasters

    1. Smallpox with death toll of 300,000,000

    2. A disease called Famines with death toll of 43,000,000

    3. Floods with a death toll of 3,700,000
