Re: Looking to start an online book club grade 2 or 3

    Hi Donna!

I am looking for a good match for my class to do an online book study/penpals type activity.  I have 27 gifted and high achieving second graders.  Is this a problem for you?  Where are you located?  We are presently doing a literature study of Mr. Popper's Penguins, but could start with a simpler book like one of the Flat Stanley series.  The students could send their own Stanleys/letters as a fun introductory ice breaker. (If you haven't already done one this year.)  I just received a document camera and am excited about using it!

    Let me know your thoughts,
    Rochelle Celeste

    Hi Michelle,

I am looking for a class that would be a good fit for mine to do an online book club.  I have 27 gifted and high achieving second graders in Beaumont, Texas.  Would my class be a good fit for yours?  We are presently doing Mr. Popper's Penguins.  As I posted before to another interested teacher, we could start with a Flat Stanley activity as an introductory ice breaker.

Let me know your thoughts if you are interested.

    Hi Sydney!

This is my first time using ePals also.  Can you tell me more about your students--city, etc?  I have 27 gifted and high achieving second graders.  I am very interested in doing an online book club/writing extension activity.  We are now doing a literature study on Mr. Popper's Penguins.  I know this is very easy, but we could start with a Flat Stanley book and exchange Flat Stanleys/letters, etc as an ice breaker with the students.  I would also like to incorporate the use of my new document camera!

Sorry I have taken so long to respond, but it took me awhile to get approved by ePals as they wanted more information.

    Let me know your thoughts.

I would love to begin the online book club with you Rochelle = Are you still interested? If so let's start outlining what book we would like to work through and then go into the creative writing afterwards - what do you think? This is my first ePals assignment - how about you?

    Hi!

I am also a second grade teacher interested in an on-line book club. We have access to alot of technology here including video and document cameras.

We would love to exchange writing and reading projects. I have 16 students in my class. Tell me if your ready and what we should try for our first project?

     Yours sincerely,

     Donna Greenthal

    Hello!

I am a Beaumont, Texas second grade teacher of gifted and talented students who would love to participate in your online book club.  We do literature circles and book studies on a regular basis.  I also envision exchanging other information regarding our geography, local celebrations, etc.  Perhaps creative writing projects. Lots of possibilities!

I am in the process of completing a grant application for applying for a document camera.  We could also do a little video-conferencing.  Please let me know if you are interested.

    Michelle,

This idea sounds great. I was just in a meeting yesterday talking about how to incorporate the idea of literature circles into our afterschool program for grades 2-4. Have you done an online book club before? The next session of our after school program starts at the end of March and runs for 10 weeks. If you are still interested in having some of our students join together I think this would be great.

I would like to join you.  I have k through 6 in one class, many with special needs.  Getting them to read is an uphill battle and perhaps this will motivate them.  We're in Florida.  Please let me know.

Looking to start an online book club grade 2 or 3

Hi! I am a 2nd grade teacher from Long Island NY. I am looking to start an online book club where we can choose a book to read and our students can discuss it online. I think ePals would be a great motivational tool.
