Re: US students looking to Skype with Spanish-speakers

Hi, I am a volunteer teacher and have taught Spanish through Skype.  I am a native Spanish speaker and will be interested to mentor students that will like to practice Spanish with a native.

Contact me if interested at beaweiss@epals.com.  I am also studying for a master in education technology and have to make some projects that demand collaboration so we can try many new tools.

Re: US students looking to Skype with Spanish-speakers

Hi everyone that replied to this original post. My apologies for giving a website that now doesn´t exist. (I decided I couldn´t live with a website name that was grammatically incorrect! :).

Anyway, I am still looking for some input on the site although it is now called www.PracticeSpeakingaForeignLanguage.com. There is still a video that helps you get an idea. Hopefully it will help many epal members who are already using Skype.

If you get a chance to try it, I¨d love to hear your thoughts...and sorry about the poor English...(notice how I didn´t say Bad English :)

    Jim

Dear Megan, I am Ibrahim from Sierra Leone.  We will love to explore Spanish. If your students are fluent with the Spanish language, we will be thrill to learn some basic words from them on a skype talk. We are really interested in communicating with other people across the globe. Looking forward to hear from you

Re: US students looking to Skype with Spanish-speakers

    Hi Victoria:

I am looking for partner class for the fall for my Sociology class. The class size is about 25 students and their ages are 16 to 18 years old. Our school is Nanuet High School, which is about 40 kms north of NYC. We can  follow "The Way We Are" ePals program in which the students exchange information about themselves. I have been looking for a partner school to conduct a video conference  (Skype?) with for awhile. I hope we can collaborate on some video and SchoolMail exchanges.

    Regards,

    Chris Kersting

I would also love to get in on the face to face action. My principal just presented me with a video cam by Logitech which supports interfacing as well.

Re: US students looking to Skype with Spanish-speakers

Hi, Kathy, my students and I are a part of the Chatting Across the USA (CATU) community.  Our founding teacher is the ePals featured teacher this month.  We share state facts, our culture, and language via Skype!  We routinely invite musicians, politicians, and Spanish tutors to our class and share them with our CATU community via Skype.  I teach 3rd grade in an urban school district in New Jersey.  What grade level do you teach?  I would love it if our students could be in touch.  My Skype name is carlene_anderson.

    Thanks,

    Carlene Anderson

Re: US students looking to Skype with Spanish-speakers

    Hola Margo,

I am from the United States and teach Spanish II, III, and IV consisting of students between the ages of 15-17.  I would like to try skype to get them practicing their Spanish and in turn they could practice English with your students.  The classes range from 15 students to 25 students.  Let me know if the offer is still there!

    Gracias,

    Jenna

Re: US students looking to Skype with Spanish-speakers

    Hi, Margo,

I teach at an elementary school in the US and would like to set up a correspondence for them with students from another country. I have nine students in the third grade, so they are between 8 and 9 years old. I would have to get skype cleared with the parents, but it is certainly a possibility. Also, I am interested in a letter correspondence through the mail.

Please let me know if any of these opportunities interest you.

    Thanks,

    Emily

Re: US students looking to Skype with Spanish-speakers

    Margo,

My name is Jim Sarris and I'm a high school Spanish teacher. I have tried to get my school to authorize Skype but so far they won't do it. I have used Tokbox but it was a disaster in the end.

However, I have created a web resource that I use with my students when they speak. It may be something you can use with your students.

If you'd like it's at the website. www.speakaforeignlanguageeasier.com

I would love to get your comments on what you like and how to improve it. You just need to sign up and take a look. No cost.

There is a video on the getting started page which will help.

Anyway, is you get a chance I would love to know what you think.

    All the best,

    Jim

Re: US students looking to Skype with Spanish-speakers

I am from Monterrey, Mexico and I teach English as a second language.  My 8th grade students bring macs to school and have them available 24/7.  Anyone overseas care to make a collaborative project between your students and mine using technology?  How old are your students and how many do you have?  Mine are 14 years old and have 23 students.

    Hope to hear from you.
