Hello Donna,

My name is George Mrsich (Mersitch)and I am currently 

teaching third grade here at Liberty Elementary 

School in Valley Cottage, NY about 35 miles north of 

NYC.

I have 24 students in the room of mixed abilities and 

what I am attempting to do in my first year in the 

grade is to build a Skype Program.  I had the choice 

to be observed this year or to choose an alternate 

assessment.  By the way, I have been teaching for 23 

years, most of them in the fifth grade.  Before that 

I was a NYC Police Officer for 20 years, 8 months, 

and ten days, but who was counting.  I have a Masters 

Degree in Instructional Technology and have been 

gnawing at administrators for two years just to get 

Skype installed on my classroom computer.

My ultimate goal is to contact teachers in foreign 

countries as it is a major part of our social studies 

curriculum.  However, before I attempt that, I 

thought it would be beneficial to break myself, and 

the rest of my students in gently, and on native 

soil.  My kids are very chatty and I want to test 

their resolve behaviorally.  That being said, I think 

it is a fabulous experience for them to talk to kids 

their own age from anywhere because it gives them a 

unique perspective regarding their fellow humans.

I will be out of the building on Wed. March 9, but 

we can talk about a date & time asap.

Thanks for the reply. Just let me know what you decide on doing. My students have several ePals but we have not done anything with skype. We would really like to try the mystery skype so if you have any opening spots we would greatly appreciate it.
