Bio: Carol Bar

Carol Bar has a B.A. in both French and Italian, as well as a Masters in French from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. She also received a graduate Rotary Foundation Scholarship to study in France in 1985-86 and earned a "Licence" degree in "Lettres Modernes" from the Université de Rouen, France. She lived, worked, and studied in France for 5 years and has 19 years of teaching experience with learners of all ages. Bar is a certified College Now and AP instructor. In addition to teaching all levels of French to grades 9-12, she also sponsors her high school’s chapter of the National French Honor Society and French Club, takes an active role on the District French Curriculum Committee, and travels to France with high school students every other summer. She began piloting the ePals blog tool for the Blue Valley School District in 2007 as a means to help students improve their writing skills in French via technology. The informal, virtual, non-threatening, and safe setting greatly motivated her students to participate and interact with each other. Preliminary standardized test scores have shown that blogging really does make a difference in student writing! Bar plans to incorporate ePals SchoolMail next year to foster cross-cultural communication with other French speakers in francophone countries.
