The melody dates back to before the United States Civil War (1861-1865) from a Negro slave work song called &ldquo;No More Auction Block For Me.&rdquo;</p> <p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p> <p class="MsoNormal">Originally, the words were &ldquo;I&rsquo;ll overcome someday.&rdquo; It was used politically for the first time on the picket lines of the tobacco worker&rsquo;s strike in South Carolina in 1945. In the early 1960&rsquo;s the song became an inspirational force in the civil rights struggle.</p> <p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p> <p class="MsoNormal">We, the students of Bolton Academy would like to share this song with you as a part of our Black History Month celebration.
