They are aware it takes time to change things for better. They love their home town and would like to do their share in making it a better place to live in.

ePals Student Interviews: Guidelines

When doing an interview, please keep the following guidelines in mind:

1. Prepare for your interview by doing a little research on your interview subject before the interview. Think about what you want to learn about the person. Think about what students around the world might want to know about this person.

2. Have a list of great questions ready before the interview and ask questions that need more than a “yes” or “no” for an answer. Ask open-ended questions.

3. Before you do the interview, practice with your video recording equipment to make sure that it is recording correctly. Choose a place for your interview without a lot of distracting background noises.

4. During the interview, pay attention to what the person you are interviewing is saying and ask follow-up questions. You can say things like, “Tell me more about that…” if you want them to expand on something that they’ve said. Give them time to answer after each of your questions and thank them at the end of the interview.

Important items to remember:

· Each video should be no more than five minutes.

· We accept the following video formats: mpg, .mp3, .mp4, .mov, .wma, .avi, .flv. We cannot accept .mswmm (Microsoft Windows Movie Maker).

· Do not include student last names or ages in your video.

· Videos should be both informative and visually appealing. Please cite all sources at the end of your video.

· Where possible, let your students do all of the talking. Young ePals around the world are most interested in listening to their peers.

· If your students are under the age of 13, please be sure that you have parents sign permission slips that permit their children’s likenesses to be posted on our website.

· Please feel free to have students speak in your native language. But remember, many students who will not be native speakers will be watching the video. Speak clearly. English subtitles are a great addition if your video is competed in another language.
