ePALS: Healthy Wetlands. Healthy You. A Clean Water Project

Quote: Just as the world's forests clean our air, wetlands clean our water

Is it true that what comes out of my tap or well is connected to marshes and swampy areas where waterfowl, wood frogs and willows live?

Sure, wetlands are homes for thousands of species, but what have they got to do with flood protection, erosion control, groundwater recharge and storing greenhouse gasses?

What's the connection between having healthy wetlands and clean water for billions of people to survive on this fragile "blue planet"?

By participating in this project, doing hands on research at a local wetland, and sharing your findings with experts and students around the world, you will begin to understand these connections. You'll not only see why wetlands are vital to all life, you'll see why they are such exciting special places to enjoy!

Have you ever visited a wetland?
Maybe you didn't even know there was a wetland near you!
