Honorary ePals Teacher Ambassador

Michael "Mr. Mike" Casey
(1978-2010)

Michael Casey was a joyful, adventure-filled educator and an active member of the ePals Global Community for 6 years. Mike Casey was the principal and 7-8 grade teacher at Gallon Jug Community School in Gallon Jug, Belize. At Gallon Jug, he brought not only technology, but a passion for education, community and collaboration.

At ePals, Mike served on our Global Advisory Committee and was ePals' first Teacher Spotlight Honoree. As a member of?the Advisory Committee, he regularly provided guidance to our staff, mentored teachers new to ePals, and shared examples of his students' great work. His pride in his students was so apparent.

Along with his wife and two children, Mr. Casey was the victim of a tragic plane crash in February 2010. In his honor, ePals awards Michael Casey with the title of Honorary ePals Ambassador. In addition, ePals will dedicate a very special honor to Mr. Casey, the Michael Casey Global Education Award. This award will honor an ePals educator who exhibits the dedication and passion for education, communication, and collaboration for which Mr. Casey was so well-known and respected.

All Teacher Ambassador applicants, as well as Teacher Spotlight Honorees are currently eligible for the award. Additional nominations for Michael Casey Global Education Award will be accepted until December 31, 2010. On?February 15, 2011, one winner will be announced. Nominations may be made, for yourself or?for another teacher,?by submitting a short (maximum 300-word) description of the nominee and his or her efforts to bring global awareness, digital skills and collaborative learning to students. We invited teachers to show us how ePals has opened the world for their students. Applicants each submitted projects that they had successfully implemented in their classrooms, examples of student work, and a video application, telling us what ePals brought to their teaching and to their students? learning. Outstanding entries came from all corners of the world, inspiring us with amazing projects, successful collaborations, and enthusiastic students. The winning Teacher Ambassadors showcase ePals core principles of global awareness, collaborative and authentic learning, digital literacy and innovation. Take a look at their projects; watch their videos; peruse their student work. They are inspirations to the entire ePals Global Community. Congratulations to ePals 2010 Ambassadors.
