The Way We Are: Information For Teachers

Participate with a partner class by following these directions:
  1. Go to your profile. Update your information to include the words "The Way We Are" in your profile description.

  2. Do a search for partner classrooms by clicking on the "Find Classrooms" link in the left hand navigation bar. You can search for a partner classroom by:
    • Using the "Description contains" box -- enter the words "The Way We Are", or "International Development", or one of the topic titles that your class will be studying. Click "search".

    • Do a search of the ePALS database by country. If you are interested in working with students in a particular country, particularly those countries involved in International Development issues, use our pull-down menu to select a country. Click "Search".

Using either of these methods, you have now generated a list of classrooms interested in participating in this project.

  3. Contact some of the teachers on this list to see if any of them are available for a partnership. Please refer to our Teacher to Teacher Guide for more information, but in your email include:
    • When you would like to start and finish this exchange and how often you'd like your students to be emailing each other.
    • Which topic(s) you'd like to discuss.
Visit The Way We Are Discussion Board to introduce yourself to other teachers participating in this project and to help find a partner class. You can reply to an existing message or create your own introducing your class and outlining your timeline and objectives.

While working with your partner class by email,
  • Teachers can share ideas, tell us about your classroom activities that support this project, describe your challenges and provide each other with answers to questions on our Discussion Board for Teachers.

  • Students can sumbit their comments, opinions, ideas, questions, and summaries on each topic on our Discussion Board for Students.

Another related ePALS project, War Affected Children: A Discussion Series, is currently underway and may be of interest to you and your students.
Find out how to use ePALS in your classroom using our Teacher to Teacher Guide, written for teachers, by teachers.
Read our Internet Safety Tips for a successful ePALS experience.
If you have questions that ePALS may be able to answer, please contact support@epals.com
