  • Re: The Great Gatsby

I'll be teaching Gatsby in May. We could set up a blog and require students to post or reply 8 times during the weeks we are reading it. We could set up guidelines about how long it has to be and we could provide a list of topics about which they could choose to post. We could give a maximum of 10...

Jessica, Our students are a little behind your students. However, we are interesting in blogging and/or creating a wiki with your students. Please contact me at lonihowell@epals.com Thank-you, Laura

  • The Odyssey, Shakespeare

My 7th & 8th students will be starting to read The Odyssey in the next couple weeks, and by May they'll be reading Shakespeare, probably Much Ado About Nothing. I'm looking for students with whom they could blog about this literature. I teach in a rural area in Vermont and have 70 students...

Hello all, I agree about the notification - this is one of those things that just falls off the plate unnoticed from time to time! On the plus side, we're starting early enough, that it will be ok! Thanks for the heads up on the gadgets. If no one else minds, I say we go with blogger since we're...

  • Re: 6th grade literature classes seeking collaboration

Hi Kim and Nargiz, May I join you? I have 2 sections who need classes to work with still (about 20 students in each section). My students (all boys) also choose their own books most of the time, and we have an online discussion forum and will also be adding journal entries/blogs. Our site is http://readforfun...

  • Re: The Great Gatsby

Since we are doing our research paper on Huck Finn and our course ends Jan. 20 (we are a block-scheduled school), I probably won't be doing much writing with Great Gatsby. However, I would be interested in blogging and giving students more opportunities to express themselves in writing about the...

  • Re: 6th grade literature classes seeking collaboration

Hi Kim, I also teach 4 classes of 6th grade reading with about 78 students (all boys). I am not sure if we'd have many opportunities for video-conferencing (just because of our schedule) but I am interested in blogging, e-mail, etc. I am interested in the boys having an authentic audience for their...

  • Re: Looking to blog about "Animal Farm" in April

I have about 75 kids blog (or at least I assign it! ha!). We use blogger and wordpress. Blogger is so easy, but if you have the kids add on gadgets, you should know that not all are school appropriate. They're not pornographic, but certainly push the edge. Do not let them take the gadget to allow...

We don't have skype, sadly, but I think this may be rather impressive never the less. Any favorite blogging websites that either of you know about? I've used blogger before with relative succes, though I've never tried it with such a LARGE group! Lisa
